Jon, I think you kind of short-shrifted the lengthy discussion about essentially going after Obama head on -- the "But We Won't" accusation. I realize that was not consensus and controversial and there was one guy in particular ("Tidbits" writer or something like that?) who said he was against that kind of "liberals vs Obama" thing. But there's no point in sites or communiques like this one if these kinds of alternatives are not shared as well.
This has always been the weakness of the "Get FISA Right" movement -- uncertainty whether or not to actually go into opposition to a guy who -- let's finally face it -- sold us out, and who continues to in issues related to executive power and a relaxed view of the Bill of So-Called Rights. In my view, it's start fighting Obama and that worldview outright, or we might as well just shut up: the only way people like us are going to really get Obama and his advisors' attention is to light a multi-issue forest fire against them -- broken promises, weakly kept ones, or ones never made across the board, whether on FISA, secrecy, executive power, torture accountability in that sphere, or gay rights, health care, etc. in other ones. Operationally, I guess it would mean boycott Obama/Dem fundraising, spread the "But We Won't" Shepard Fairy knockoff, build a bill of particulars explaining why.
