About this wikiThis is a featured page

This Wetpaint wiki started as the hub for the "online visibility" project for Computers, Freedom, and Privacy 2009, and has since turned into the planning hub for CFP 2010.

For a conference that's been talking about the hard issues of cyberspace since 1991, CFP's online visibility is not what you would expect. 2008, for example, was the first time we had a a social network presence (on Facebook, tribe.net, and free-association); and we rather embarrassingly weren't able to stream video or even audio during the event. Still, it was a good start: we got excellent proposals for sessions in via the blog and social network sites, attracted people who wouldn't have known about the conference otherwise, and wound up with some great videos.

For 2009, we did much better: videos streamed via UStream and an active Twitter backchannel. For 2010, we'd like to have the blog and Twitter conversations extend year round, and encourage even more participation by people who aren't able to attend the conference in person
